Forever 21 goes plus size!

Yes, you heard me. Forever 21 is launching a plus size line called Faith 21 which will be sold in a few shops in May and online. Can I say how much I LOVE the fact that they will be selling plus in their stores rather than creating a separate plus size store. Although it'd be nice if they just expanded the range of sizes of what they currently have rather than create a whole new line.

There is also another article on plus size fashion (or rather the lack of it) as part of the whole series and it is one of the best articles I've read on plus size fashion in a long time http://www.latimes.com/features/lifestyle/la-ig-size1-2009mar01,0,2345629.story.

the lord has blessed us all

I haven't read the articles yet, but I suspect this is a trend we will see more of in this shit economy. Retailers can't afford to alienate such a huge segment of their potential customers anymore.

Heh. Our economy going in the toilet has to be good for *something*!

I'm excited but skeptical at the same time. I'll admit that I love some of Forever 21's styles, but it seems to be a store designed for teens and 20-somethings and I'm not sure if their plus sizes will work for me. Having a less proportional body that's larger on top and in the middle than on the bottom creates some interesting sizing dilemmas, and I generally find that clothes cut in junior styles, including junior plus, usually don't work for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though. ...Not that my bank account needs another serious dent, but I'm always happy to support the failing economy.

And if the pieces sell well, they may expand into 3s and 4s!

I am so excited! I sent them a letters few years ago because they had the tagline fashion for everybody or something like that but they only sold clothes up to a size large!

excellent! now i cross my fingers that they will ship to canada...

oh, there is a canadian site. wooo, i am so stoked now!

OMG YAYYYYY

I have long wished this day would come. EEE.

So does that mean that regular sizes will go up to 2x and there will plus sizes additional to that? That's what I'm getting from the article.

I just hope the plus-sizes aren't watered down designs. That's how I felt about Old Navy. I thought they had a lot of cute designs and prints for their "straight" sizes but the plus-sizes left me underwhelmed as they were mostly monochromatic and uninspired.

This. Also, I'm iffy on quality. I don't know much about their clothing, only that their jewelry is super cheap.

If the straight sizes are of decent price for quality, will the plus sizes be too? Or will they be stretchy, shapeless paper bags with off the wall sizing? (Like Old Navy) Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited to see what comes of this.

I INTEND TO NEVER HAVE MONEY EVER AGAIN, THANKS TO THIS NEWS.

HURRAH!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED RIGHT NOW.

I'm so excited - but I wonder if:

a) the line will be sold in canada. we don't usually get the capsule collections done by major retailers, and get jilted on shipping from big guys like Old Navy. so I'm waiting to see if they actually bring it up here. more than likely, we'll get it in 12 months.

b) my 20-22 butt will fit in to their sizing. i have ONE magic top from forever 21, with is very floaty. but i'm skeptical that their weirdly worded sizes (what IS junior plus?) will actually translate to actual fat-friendliness. I'm worried that I'll be stuck combing the racks again for blousy tops and dresses, and forget buying pants. I just want my fast fashion!! Is that so wrong?

c)The line will be basics only. forget tshirts and jeans, i want frills, pastels, prints, maxi dresses, high waisted skirts, secretary blouses, pleats, embroidery, beading, and more! i'm sick of dressing up basics with accessories.

d)the line will last. we all saw what happened with old navy. call me a pessimist, but based on the LA Times articles I wouldn't be surprised if Forever 21 relegates Faith 21 to the internet to save money. I want physical clothes! I actually really dislike online shopping...

The LA Times articles were good, though, and I enjoyed their tone as opposed to other articles about fat fashion (ie: horrible girl-in-a-fatsuit at london fashion week article last week!?!). As someone who regularly reads The Cut, The Sartorialist, The Cherry Blossom Girl, and Style Bubble fashion blogs, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who's sick of plus-size bricks and mortar stores offering only the basics.

P.S. At the opening of the New York Topshop, owner Sir Philip Green said the chain will be opening a location in Canada in 6-9 months! Excitement!

I was wondering if anyone else on here had read that! Quite a trip..

Oh my gosh, YES!

Now I'm freaking excited.

I'M EXCITED! XD All I know is, they bet not mess this up. So this is my cautious excitement, haha.

we can thank the recession for this.
i knew that some companies were going to launch plus if they already had a good production + distribution because it's easy $$ in the bank. let's see how well they do on fit, construction and of course selling. it seems like it's going to be a limited launch - Faith 21 will be available in L.A. on May 1 at Lakewood Center Mall, Montebello Town Center, Los Cerritos Mall, Anaheim Plaza and online at www.forever21.com.

more online shopping it is for us. i'm skeptical that they're going to expand the stock to all their doors.
