Someone recently discovered this website (http://www.fibrotex.eu/) and I said I'd order some tights and let you know what they were like. I've got a pair on today, so I'll talk about those.

On a Quest for thigh highs!
SEX Smexy legs by or_mabinogi

Hello, friends!! I'm in a bit of a pickle and I could use your expert advise and shopping wizardry. My brother is getting married next weekend and I have a gorgeous dress and fabulous shoes all picked out, but I am sadly lacking in the hosiery department. I'm wearing the most monsterously confining/fabulously shaping Spanx contraption that goes from mid-thigh all the way to my bra, so I would prefer not to wear full length pantyhose.

I'm thinking thigh highs, but I have no clue where I can get those in my size on such short order. I live in Austin, TX and I'm willing to drive just about anywhere in town/surrounding area to find something in a brick and mortar store if anybody has any suggestions for me?

Question about Music Legs and We Love Colors Tights
Pensive

Hello love people!

First time poster here. I'm trying to find a good pair of solid tights for layering under patterned/see-through type tights, such as the ones you might find in "Avenue" or "Hot Topic". I'm watching a couple of listings on ebay and two of them happen to be "We Love" Colors" and "Music Legs". I've had no experience with either and wanted to know what the fit was like and if it ran true to size/had stretch to it.

I was absolutely in love with these : http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Womens-Leg-Impressions-Brand-sweater-footed-tights-NEW-/01/!BkwgHrQ!2k~$(KGrHqQH-DwEs-pIEZygBLY2vVyIUw~~_35.JPG

(the striped ones in black and grey)

and was so happy to have found warm tights in my size. They read : 160-250. When I got home, however, I couldn't even get them to fit around my thighs. Now, if I were say b/w 230-250. I could understand the lack of proper fit, but I weigh 50lbs less than the largest it will go. There is a *slight* possibility that my thighs are just that wide , but somehow I doubt it. This was NOT something I purchased online, it was however final sale, so moot point.

This experience has made me rather wary of purchasing hosiery even if a given weight range is written and $15.00 may be reasonable for tights, but in today's economy, even that "reasonable" price is expensive (that's the price for the "we love colors" tights). If I'm going to pay that amount, I'd really like to be certain they're going to fit and I won't have to send them back.

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thermal undergarments, warm coat

Hey all,

It's officially fricking cold in Southeast Michigan, and I'm on the prowl for warm underthings! I'd really like the typical thermal underwear (I always called them long johns as a kid) that looks like leggings and a tight longsleeved shirt. My issue is that most of the ones I've found that are large enough for me are mens, and are also way too long for me and fall down a lot. Does anyone know of decent thermal clothing for short fat people with hips? I'm looking for something that will work underneath my normal work jeans and work shirt, so it has to be pretty form-fitting. I wear a size 26-28-30, ~310lbs, 5'6".

Also, does anyone know of a glove that legitimately keeps your hand toasty but that still allows you to be relatively dexterous? It's like the Michiganders holy grail of winter-wear, I know. But still, suggestions are welcome. Right now I'm using a leather pair, and while they're great for maneuverability they kind of suck at actually insulating.

My next dilemma is my winter coat. I have a really awesome and really warm Goose down coat that I love...but it's slightly too small for me this year and won't close. I really can't afford another down coat but the whole "not closing" thing really isn't working for me, so I want to know if any of you have a warm but inexpensive coat recommendation. Sizing would need to be at least a 28, style is completely irrelevant in the face of winter. This is also turning out to be a holy grail, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh, Avenue tights, how you mock me. (+ a minor F21 rant)

Like most Fats, I'm on a never-ending quest to find fat clothes that are actually fashionable and comfortable (ok, perhaps most people- fat or thin or inbetween- are on that quest, but it does seem harder for fats, since we have less options!). As such, a little part of my heart jumped straight out of my chest when I realized that leggings and tights are once again not just acceptable for winter, but downright trendy.

Remembering the luck I had early in the season last year, I hit up my local Avenue. Now, this is sort of a big deal: generally, I avoid Avenue because it's a bunch of shapeless, oversized acrylic sweaters and bras that actually pull my boobs down (how does that even happen?). But come winter months, I'm in Avenue on the regular, snapping up cheap, quality, and comfy leggings, tights-- and heck, even their jewelry is reasonably priced (especially on clearance!) and adorable. So, I went in the other day and bought 6 pairs of tights in varying amazing patterns and shapes. At $14.90 a pair (what??? I would swear on my life that these were not nearly that expensive last year), my total was about $90--- but they were having their little 40% off Veteran's Day sale, so I felt far less ripped off.

Last night, it was time: the tights were comin' out. Last year, I always bought size C/D, which were a teeny bit big, but comfy-- so, I bought the same ones this year, having not really gained  or lost any weight. I'm 5'4'' and 250 lbs, usually where an 18-24 bottom, depending on sizing.  The first pair I tried were plain black tights in Size E, since they had been out of size C/D. By all logic, these should have been way too big--- but they weren't. In fact, I couldn't get them over my thighs. Read more... )

Does anyone here have  the same experience with this year's Avenue tights? I really think the sizing has changed--- which I do remember a post on here about their jeans getting sized WAY down, too.  Also, do you have any good recommendations on fabulous tights/ leggings?

Also, my little Forever 21 rant: you know, I'm very lucky that I live somewhere with a giant Forever 21 with a huge fats section. While I'm not normally one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I've noticed something on my last two trips that has really made me rage. When you walk through just the fat section, you think to yourself, "WOW! Omg! This is so cute! SO much better the Lane Bryant and such!" But then, when you look through the rest of the store, you realize that the fat section has literally none of the cute trendy things the other sections have. Why is it that the fat section is (mostly, there are some exceptions though) all boring colors, weird cuts, and unfashionable prints. . . when you can walk 10 steps into the "skinny girl" section and find fabulous on trend items with sexy cuts and fun things on them.   This is less obvious on the website, but more so in store, IMHO. Ok, rant over.

Help Locating Plus-Sized Thigh Highs

 Hey people!

I'm on the hunt for some flirty, sexy, plus-sized thigh-highs.  I have a horrible time finding even tights that fit me, let alone thigh-highs.  My thigh circumference is ~36" and I don't have very much luck getting anything to stretch that large.  Additionally, I'm only 5'2" and not much of that is leg.  I don't know if that affects the fit of thigh-highs, but I thought I'd mention it.  .  I've tried Torrid thigh highs in 4 and they don't seem to do the trick.  :(

Does anyone out there have any sources for thigh-highs?  I have a few garter belts and such so rubber-top is not required, but it's be nice.  Online is preferred but I have access to all the usual places -- Target, Lane Bryant, Avenue (no more Torrid tho -- ours closed).

I'm open to any and all suggestions!  Thanks! :)

Hello fat ones! I am intrigued by these tights because of the price and the colors. Two pair of tights, in my size, for $19.99 and they come in colors like grape and teal!

I am curious about your experiences with them, if any. I am scouting out good tights for work - opaque, sturdy, cost-efficient (I'm on a teacher's salary), and in cool colors because I'll be working with K-12 students and can get away with wearing purple tights at work.

Gold tights or leggings?
[info]meemsies
 Hello fellow fats!

Any of you know where I might be able to find some decent quality gold tights or leggings in a size 3x or larger? Ideally, I'd like them to not be solid gold but more gold infused (if that makes sense). Maybe even textured... *dreamy sigh*.

And, yes, this is for The Gold and The Beautiful event in Chicago. Anyone else going??

Desperately Seeking Stripey Tights

Hello, fellow fatshionistas!

I am looking for stripey tights to fit a high-waisted apple shape (i.e. no butt, lots of belly) in the smaller plus-size range (I wear size 14/16 US pants). I've tried a number of different brands so far, to the point where I have an entire bin of tights that don't fit, and I haven't found a single pair that fits right. Pretty much anything with double back seams is way too big in back if they fit me in front, so they slip down in back and rub uncomfortably, and all of the not-double-seamed brands I've tried have insanely low waistbands that don't even make it up the bottom slope of my belly, and so just slide right off.

Has anyone with a similar shape had any luck finding stripey tights (or really any non-solid/non-neutral-colored tights) that fit?

HUE tights
[info]purplekeychain
I know the tights discussion has been done to death here, but I wanted to share a recent find of mine last week.

Knowing how rough I am on tights, I don't want to spend $15 plus S&H for one pair and have to keep replacing them. Avenue's microfiber tights are cheap enough, but they are so damned thin. Lane Bryant only has a handful of color choices, and they are all control top (which is where my tights always run). Torrid tights are awesome, but they are mostly black and tend to pill on the foot.

A few days ago, I found a brand at Macy's called HUE. They have "plus" sizes in 1X - 5X, only at brick-and-mortar Macy's or on the HUE website.

My review: As a 5'8, 24/26, 300+ lbs fat, I fit the 5X in the plain "Opaque Tights" perfectly, with one exception, which was that the waistband was low. But I overcame this by wearing my Avenue bike shorts on top to hold them in place (luckily, I wear these anyway because of the cold weather).

Pros:
They are soft, thicker than Ave and LB tights, thick and seemingly durable, relatively cheap (most plain styles are 2 for $20), and they come in several non-boring colors.

Cons:
Only a select few styles offer 4X and 5X and the waistband for the "Opaque Tights" was too low.

Would I buy them again: Absolutely! I think I'll try a pair of control top (yuck) next to see if the waist is higher, because when the weather warms up again, I don't want to have to wear the extra layer of bike shorts.

Grade: B-

Has anyone else tried HUE tights?
