Infinity Dress Question & Socks Question

The two questions are not related, even I wouldn't wear crew socks with a fancy dress.

I'm looking at this infinity dress for a bridesmaid outfit. It supposedly fits to a size 26: http://shop.henkaa.com/products/sakura-convertible-gown-dress-burgundy-wine

Has anyone tried wearing these, with big boobs & jiggly bits? All their models are size 2, so I can't quite imagine how it would look on me.

Unrelated question about socks: I'm looking for simple black non-binding mid-calf-ish thin cotton socks, preferably reasonably affordable. Anyone have any recommendations for brands?

I think you should be fine with the dress - I know there are other manufacturers of that style of dress and they cater to plus size

the gallery has a couple (not many) pics of plus ladies

I looked through the galleries, and didn't see too many plus size folk. The few I saw were either wearing a style I consider unflattering on everyone (boob bags are just not flattering), or were not top heavy.

There was someone on fatshionista awhile back who bought a very similar convertible dress, and she had a blog too, with a lot of extra pictures... Check the memories? It looked awesome, that was for sure.

Ooh, I'd love to see that. I browsed memories and Googled but didn't find it. Did find a pointer to MonifC's site, which has some better pictures (with models that are plus size even). But as always, models regardless of size look like models. I do not.

Have you searched monif c convertible dresses on youtube? There are several videos of her doing different styles on individuals. I don't know if any of them are a size 28 to give you a feel for how you would look in the dress, but they are definitely not a 14. Monif herself is in the videos and probably a size 24, but extremely busty. She is usually wearing one of the dresses, I think.

There's always the plunge-type bras that you could wear. They look like instruments of torture, but IMO would be better than having my girls pop out in the middle of a wedding. other than that I think the dress would look fab on a fatshionista.

I have yet to find a bra that actually manages to lift & separate that is not built like armor. No strapless/plunge/fancy bras for me. I guess I could go the corset route (which I did for my own wedding).

If you've got a corset, I would say totally go for that dress - the way it's cut, it'll look better on a curvaceous lady like yourself than it looks on any of their models.

monif c makes a pretty awesome plus size convertible dress, if you want to see that style dress on a non-size 2 body.

I was just going to suggest checking out Monif C's infinity dress page (http://www.monifc.com/marilyn-convertible-dress.html) for ideas on how it will look.

I made my infinity dress (it's not hard - two long rectangles attached to a circle skirt) and have had mixed results with it. I find that to get it to stay put in the style I wrap it in I have to wrap it really tight... so wearing it sleeved like the model you linked to is interesting. I also made mine with a modesty band so I could wear my bra with it. (My girls need support, it's just how it is.) I think you can buy a modesty band to coordinate with your infinity dress too.

Thanks! I'd definitely get the matching modesty band, because most of the interesting looking forms look like they'd show too much back for me.

Have you posted pictures of your dress? Would you mind doing it?

i've made my own infinity dress (it really is two rectangles and a circle skirt!) and wear it with a standard bra. I made the rectangles wide and long and overlapped enough they wouldn't split the difference and show the bra. I wear it with the rectangles set like flutter sleeves and then wound around my middle to define the waist and hold the sleeves in place. and i am quite busty. (if in doubt, have a tailor sew in some hidden snaps at the midbust crossing)

Ooh, that sounds perfect. Would you mind sending me or posting pics, or have you posted pics before?

Also I have zero sewing skills, so I don't think I'll attempt a stretchy material ever.

you know, i don't think I have a digital picture of it!

i made it with these instructions http://www.rostitchery.com/infinity-dress.html
and if you scroll down to the side by sides, the first is the flutter sleeves. I wear it like that but there's no skin gap between fabric and waist like in that pic.

I have some socks like you described from Target. Not expensive but cheap enough to re-buy if they wear out etc. I think they are Merona brand.

I have a dress from Nordstrom a few years ago that was a very similar style in US size 22. It was very flattering. I think it will be wonderful. I am fairly hourglass, 5'4.5" and was about 260 and looked great in this style. I did have to find a really good balconette/plunge bra because it was cut quite low in the front.

Thanks. Was it the TwoBirds brand?

Ive seen the infinity dress on My fair Wedding a lot by TwoBirds and again on other plus size blogs from Montif C. I knew I wanted it for my Bridesmaids but I almost cried when I saw their prices. I wouldn't do that to my BMs. Then I went to a Bridal Expo here in NYC and Henkaa was there. There were like 4 small waisted girls and one BBW (seriously, she was pretty!) She was verrrrrry busty and she was wearing the dress. She may have been a tad bigger than me in dress size (I am a size 20...maybe she was a 24) but she definitely was rocking that dress. And all the girls were very nice to me when I was asking so many questions. When it's time for my bridesmaids to get dresses, I am very sure I'm asking them to get these and petticoats (Retro style wedding attire)

Just to try it out for myself, I bought the infinity dress from Target in Black. It was 40 bucks....I just wanted to see if it was a big hassle to use and stay in the dress. The Verdict: I LOVE IT. I used the Monif C Marilyn tutorials on youtube to help me figure it out.

I hope I helped you in some way :)

Oh, that IS super helpful. You've touched the fabric of the Henkaa dresses, and seen how they flow. Is the quality good? Their return policy is kind of sucky, which is partially what is making me nervous about the choice.

The quality of the fabric is good. Its not a thick fabric though so if you got lotta lady lumps, spanx will make them go bye bye. Dont they have the option of buying a sample?
